Breath Control - The Heart of Singing: Proper control of your breath is perhaps the most important step in singing well. Surprising however, even some professional singers like pop stars do not know how to control their breath well. How they are able to maintain their voice box without damaging it for a long time is a mystery. This is because, improper breathing when singing could damage your voice.

To know whether you are using correct breathing technique when singing, here are some questions to consider: Do you sing and half way suddenly stop because of lose of breath? Do you lose your voice after a couple of minutes singing? Do you feel tension building up in your throat as you sing? Then you are singing using incorrect breathing technique. Stop now and correct it.

The correct way to breath is deep through your diaphragm, located below your rib cage and not through your throat. The diaphragm expands on the four sides to accommodate the air. Hold the position you were when you started breathing and do not change until at least you are about taking another breath.

This is because your body has adjusted appropriately when you started, changing it abruptly might alter your tone. Take time to watch an opera singer. Do you notice that his or her movements are minimal? This is in order to maintain the position of the singer´s back which extends backward when he or she starts taking in the controlled breath, meanwhile the throat is opened and relaxed.

Extensive use of bad breathing can cause nodes developing in your throat.Correcting this might involve surgical operation, so control your breath, control your future as a singer.
